Biological Background: CD84 Function and Localization

• CD84 (SLAMF5, LY9B, hCD84, mCD84) is a self-ligand receptor of the signaling lymphocytic activation molecule (SLAM) family that modulates immune cell activation and differentiation via homo- or heterotypic cell-cell interactions, thereby interconnecting innate and adaptive immunity.
• CD84 enhances proliferative responses of activated T-cells in a manner that does not appear to require the adaptor protein SH2D1A/SAP.
