Biological Background: CD79B Function and Localization

• CD79B (also known as B29, Ig-beta, or AGM6) is the beta chain of the B-cell antigen receptor complex-associated protein, essential for BCR signaling.
• Together with CD79A, CD79B initiates signal transduction upon BCR engagement, leading to internalization, trafficking to late endosomes, and antigen presentation.
• CD79B enhances CD79A phosphorylation, possibly by recruiting kinases or protecting CD79A from dephosphorylation.
• It is predominantly expressed on the surface of B-cells, playing a critical role in adaptive immunity.
• The protein is a transmembrane glycoprotein with an immunoglobulin domain, disulfide bonds, and phosphorylation sites, classified under phosphoprotein and ubiquitin conjugation.
