Biological Background: CD62E Function and Localization

  • E-selectin (CD62E/ELAM-1/LECAM2) is a cell-surface glycoprotein encoded by the Sele gene in mice.
  • It mediates the adhesion of blood neutrophils to cytokine-activated endothelium by interacting with SELPLG/PSGL1. Related references: PMID:1375914
  • Belongs to the selectin family, characterized by an N-terminal lectin domain, an EGF-like domain, and multiple Sushi (SCR) repeats.
  • Localized to the cell membrane as a single-pass type I membrane protein.
  • Contains structural features including disulfide bonds, a calcium-dependent lectin domain, and N-glycosylation sites.
  • May also contribute to capillary morphogenesis.
  • Molecular weight is approximately 67 kDa (calculated) or 66 kDa (observed).
