Biological Background: CD352/SLAMF6 Function and Localization

• CD352/SLAMF6, also known as Ly108, is a member of the signaling lymphocytic activation molecule (SLAM) family, functioning as a self-ligand receptor that modulates activation and differentiation of various immune cells.

• SLAMF6 is a single-pass type I membrane protein localized at the cell membrane and is expressed primarily on hematopoietic cells, including thymocytes and B lymphocytes.

• Signaling through SLAMF6 is controlled by small cytoplasmic adapters SH2D1A/SAP and SH2D1B/EAT-2; presence or absence of these adapters determines whether positive or negative signals are transmitted (PubMed:19648922).
