Biological Background: CD324/E-Cadherin Function and Localization
- Cadherin-1 (CD324/E-Cadherin), also known as uvomorulin (Um), ARC-1, E-cad, and L-CAM, is a classical cadherin from the cadherin superfamily.
- It mediates calcium-dependent homophilic cell-cell adhesion, playing essential roles in cell sorting, epithelial cell mobility, and proliferation (PubMed:11976333).

- Through interaction with AMOTL2, it promotes organization of radial actin fibers and cellular response to contractile forces, linking cell junctions to the cytoskeleton (By similarity).
- Participates in early desmosome assembly by facilitating recruitment of DSG2 and DSP to desmosome plaques; also acts as a ligand for integrin alpha-E/beta-7 (By similarity).
- Possesses tumor suppressor activity and promotes non-amyloidogenic degradation of Abeta precursors via its cytoplasmic fragment E-Cad/CTF2 (By similarity).
- Subcellularly localizes to adherens junctions, desmosomes, cell membrane, endosomes, trans-Golgi network, and cytoplasm, reflecting its dynamic trafficking.
