Biological Background: CD272/BTLA Function and Localization
- B- and T-lymphocyte attenuator (BTLA; CD272) is an inhibitory receptor belonging to the immunoglobulin superfamily. It contains a signal peptide, an extracellular Ig domain, a transmembrane helix, and a cytoplasmic tail with ITIM and ITSM motifs.
- Upon ligand engagement, BTLA recruits the tyrosine phosphatases SHP-1 (PTPN6) and SHP-2 (PTPN11) to negatively regulate antigen receptor signaling in lymphocytes.
