  • Sialic acid-binding immunoglobulin-like lectin 5 (Siglec-5), also known as CD170, CD33L2, or OBBP2, is a member of the Siglec family of transmembrane receptors that recognize sialic acid-containing glycans.
  • It functions as a putative adhesion molecule that mediates sialic acid-dependent binding to cells, with equal affinity for α-2,3-linked and α-2,6-linked sialic acids.
  • The sialic acid recognition site may be masked by cis interactions with sialic acids on the same cell surface, modulating its binding activity.
