Biological Background: Tissue Factor Function and Localization
- CD142, also known as Tissue Factor (TF), Coagulation factor III, or Thromboplastin, is a transmembrane glycoprotein that serves as the primary initiator of the extrinsic blood coagulation cascade.
- Upon vascular injury, TF forms a high-affinity complex with circulating factor VII (FVII) or its active form VIIa, and the TF:VIIa complex proteolytically activates factor IX and factor X, leading to thrombin generation and fibrin clot formation.
