- C4BPA, also known as proline-rich protein (PRP), is the alpha chain of the C4b-binding protein complex, a pivotal regulator of the classical complement pathway.
- It acts as a cofactor for complement factor I (C3bINA) to cleave and inactivate complement fragment C4b.
- C4BPA accelerates the decay of the classical pathway C3 convertase (C4bC2a) by dissociating the C2a subunit.
- The protein is secreted and found associated with chylomicrons in blood plasma.
- C4BPA interacts with anticoagulant protein S and serum amyloid P component, linking complement regulation to coagulation and innate immunity.
- The alpha chain contains multiple sushi domains (complement control protein modules) and undergoes post-translational modifications, including disulfide bond formation and glycosylation.

- The antibody is raised against a synthetic peptide corresponding to the C-terminal region (aa500–C-terminus). For Western blotting, the expected band size is around 67 kDa under reducing conditions; consider using a marker lane.
