Biological Background: c-Myc Function and Localization
- Proto-oncogene transcription factor, also known as bHLHe39, c-Myc, or transcription factor p64, encoded by the MYC gene. Functions as a class E basic helix-loop-helix protein.
- Binds DNA in a non-specific manner and specifically recognizes the E-box motif 5'-CAC[GA]TG-3' (PubMed:24940000, PubMed:25956029). Activates transcription of growth-related genes and promotes VEGFA production to drive sprouting angiogenesis.
