Biological Background: BRD2 Function and Localization
- BRD2 (Bromodomain-containing protein 2), also known as O27.1.1, is a member of the bromodomain and extra-terminal (BET) family, characterized by two N-terminal bromodomains and an extra-terminal domain. It is encoded by the human gene BRD2 (Gene ID: 6046).
- Functions as a chromatin reader that specifically recognizes and binds histone H4 acetylated at Lys-5 and Lys-12 (H4K5ac and H4K12ac), thereby controlling gene expression and chromatin remodeling. Related references: PMID:17148447 PMID:17848202 PMID:18406326
- Plays a key role in genome compartmentalization by associating with CTCF and cohesin; recruited to chromatin by CTCF and promotes formation of topologically associating domains (TADs), contributing to boundary formation and enhancer insulation. Related references: PMID:35410381
