- BLOC1S6, also known as pallidin, is a subunit of the biogenesis of lysosome-related organelles complex 1 (BLOC-1). Multiple isoforms exist due to alternative splicing.
- It is a component of the BLOC-1 complex, which is essential for the normal biogenesis of lysosome-related organelles (LROs), including platelet dense granules and melanosomes. The complex works in concert with the AP-3 complex to target membrane protein cargos into vesicles for delivery into neurites and nerve terminals.
- BLOC1S6, in association with SNARE proteins, is also involved in neurite extension and may play a broader role in intracellular vesicle trafficking, particularly in vesicle docking and fusion processes.
