Biological Background: BHLHE40 Function and Localization
- BHLHE40 is a Class E basic helix-loop-helix transcriptional repressor that plays a critical role in circadian rhythm regulation by negatively regulating clock genes and clock-controlled genes. Related references: PMID:12397359, PMID:18411297
- It acts as the negative limb of an autoregulatory feedback loop (DEC loop) distinct from the PER/CRY loop, repressing PER1/2 and being itself repressed by PER1/2 and CRY1/2. Related references: PMID:14672706, PMID:15193144
