  • BAZ2A, also known as TIP5 or WALp3, is a large multidomain protein that serves as the regulatory subunit of the ATP-dependent NoRC-1 and NoRC-5 ISWI chromatin remodeling complexes.
  • These complexes catalyze ordered nucleosome spacing and facilitate DNA access during replication, transcription, and repair, with BAZ2A directly stimulating the ATPase activity of SMARCA5 in the NoRC-5 complex (PubMed:28801535). Related references: PMID:28801535
  • Within the nucleolus, BAZ2A mediates rDNA silencing by recruiting histone deacetylases (e.g., HDAC1) and DNA methyltransferases to establish repressive heterochromatin, thereby inhibiting RNA polymerase I transcription.
