Biological Background: ARL6IP1 Function and Localization

• ADP-ribosylation factor-like protein 6-interacting protein 1 (ARL6IP1), also known as apoptotic regulator in the membrane of the endoplasmic reticulum (ARMER), is encoded by the ARL6IP1 gene (alternative names: ARL6IP, ARMER, KIAA0069). Multiple isoforms are produced by alternative splicing.
• Positively regulates SLC1A1/EAAC1-mediated glutamate transport by increasing its affinity for glutamate in a PKC activity-dependent manner, probably by reducing interaction with the negative regulator ARL6IP5 (By similarity).
