Biological Background: ARID5A Function and Localization
- ARID5A (AT-rich interactive domain-containing protein 5A), also known as modulator recognition factor 1 (MRF-1), is a DNA- and RNA-binding protein implicated in transcription regulation and mRNA stability.
- As a DNA-binding protein, it may regulate transcription and act as a repressor by binding to AT-rich stretches in the promoter region of target genes (PubMed:8649988). Related references: PMID:8649988
- ARID5A can repress ESR1-mediated transcriptional activation, acting as a corepressor for selective nuclear hormone receptors (PubMed:15941852). Related references: PMID:15941852
- As an RNA-binding protein, it stabilizes selective inflammation-related mRNAs, such as IL6, STAT3, and TBX21, by binding to stem-loop structures in their 3'UTRs and preventing degradation by ZC3H12A and RC3H1.
