Biological Background: ApoER2/LRP8 Function and Localization

  • Serves as a cell surface receptor for Reelin (RELN) and apolipoprotein E (apoE)-containing ligands, mediating the extracellular Reelin signal to intracellular pathways by binding DAB1 on its cytoplasmic tail. Related references: PMID:12899622, PMID:12950167, PMID:20223215
  • Key component of the Reelin pathway, which governs neuronal layering of the forebrain during embryonic brain development; exhibits higher affinity for Reelin than the related VLDL receptor (VLDLR).

  • Highly expressed in the initial segment of the epididymis, where it influences the functional expression of clusterin and phospholipid hydroperoxide glutathione peroxidase (PHGPx), two proteins required for sperm maturation.
