Biological Background: APC Function and Localization

• APC (adenomatous polyposis coli) is a tumor suppressor protein encoded by the APC gene, also referred to as DP2.5, GS, BTPS2, and PPP1R46.
• It functions as a negative regulator of the Wnt signaling pathway by promoting the degradation of beta-catenin (CTNNB1); its activity is modulated by phosphorylation.

• The protein is localized to adherens junctions, the cytoplasm, cytoskeleton, cell membrane, and cell projections like lamellipodia and ruffles.
