Biological Background: AP2A1 Function and Localization
- AP2A1 encodes the alpha-1 subunit of the adaptor protein complex 2 (AP-2), also known as alpha-adaptin A, 100 kDa coated vesicle protein A, and clathrin assembly protein complex 2 alpha-A large chain.
- AP-2 functions in clathrin-dependent endocytosis, mediating cargo selection and vesicle formation at the plasma membrane, and recognizes Y-X-X-Φ and [ED]-X-X-X-L-[LI] endocytosis signals in transmembrane cargo tails.

- AP2A1 localizes to the cell membrane and clathrin-coated pits, consistent with its role in endocytic trafficking.
