• AKAP7 encodes A-kinase anchor protein 7, which generates alpha and beta isoforms through alternative splicing. These isoforms are also known as AKAP15 and AKAP18.
• Targets the cAMP-dependent protein kinase (PKA) to the plasma membrane, enabling functional coupling to L-type calcium channels.
• The membrane-associated form of AKAP7 reduces epithelial sodium channel (ENaC) activity, while the free cytoplasmic form may negatively regulate ENaC channel feedback inhibition by intracellular sodium.
• Localizes to the lateral cell membrane and apical cell membrane.
