Biological Background: AIM2 Function and Localization

- Upon binding dsDNA, AIM2 assembles the AIM2 inflammasome, a supramolecular complex that recruits and activates caspase-1 (CASP1) via the adaptor ASC/PYCARD, leading to pyroptosis and secretion of IL-1β and IL-18 (PubMed:17726700, PubMed:19158675, PubMed:19158676).
