• ADAM28 (Disintegrin and metalloproteinase domain-containing protein 28) is a member of the ADAM family, also known as eMDC II (epididymal metalloproteinase-like, disintegrin-like, and cysteine-rich protein II) or MDC-L. It is encoded by the ADAM28 gene (aliases ADAM23, MDCL) and undergoes alternative splicing.
• It functions as a metalloprotease involved in adhesive and proteolytic events during lymphocyte emigration. It may mediate ectodomain shedding of lymphocyte surface proteins such as FASL and CD40L, thereby modulating immune responses.
• ADAM28 may also play a role in sperm maturation, based on its expression and functional context.
