  • ADAM22 (Disintegrin and metalloproteinase domain-containing protein 22) is also known as MDC2, metalloproteinase-disintegrin ADAM22-3, and metalloproteinase-like, disintegrin-like, and cysteine-rich protein 2.
  • It is a non-catalytic metalloprotease-like protein that functions as a probable ligand for integrins in the brain. Related references: PMID:19692335
  • ADAM22 acts as a neuronal receptor for LGI1 and is involved in regulating cell adhesion, cell spreading, and inhibition of cell proliferation.
  • Subcellularly, ADAM22 localizes to the cell membrane and is specifically found in cell projections such as axons.
  • It is highly expressed in the brain and in some high-grade gliomas, with minimal expression in other tissues.
