Biological Background: ADAM17 Function and Localization

• ADAM17 (Disintegrin and metalloproteinase domain-containing protein 17), also known as TACE (TNF-alpha convertase) or CD156B, is a zinc-dependent transmembrane metalloprotease.
• It mediates the ectodomain shedding of a wide range of transmembrane proteins, including adhesion molecules, growth factor precursors, and cytokines critical for inflammation and immunity (PubMed:24226769, PubMed:24227843, PubMed:28060820).
