Biological Background: ACSL3 Function and Localization

• ACSL3 is a long-chain-fatty-acid--CoA ligase that activates long-chain fatty acids for cellular lipid synthesis and beta-oxidation. Related references: PMID:22633490
• It preferentially uses myristate, laurate, arachidonate, and eicosapentaenoate as substrates, with both isoforms showing equivalent activity.
