Biological Background: ACADM Function and Localization

  • ACADM (medium-chain specific acyl-CoA dehydrogenase, also known as MCAD, ACAD1, MCADH) catalyzes the stereospecific alpha,beta-dehydrogenation of fatty acyl-CoA thioesters using electron transfer flavoprotein (ETF) as acceptor, preferring saturated C6–C12 chains and longer chains up to C16.
