  • 14-3-3 protein beta/alpha (also known as Protein 1054 or Protein kinase C inhibitor protein 1, KCIP-1) is encoded by the YWHAB gene in humans. It belongs to the 14-3-3 family of conserved regulatory proteins.
  • Functions as an adapter protein that binds to a large number of signaling partners, typically via recognition of phosphoserine or phosphothreonine motifs, modulating their activity.
  • Acts as a negative regulator of osteogenesis and blocks neuronal apoptosis by inhibiting the AKT1-phosphorylated SRPK2-mediated upregulation of cyclin D1.
  • Negatively regulates MAP kinase signaling cascades mediated by AKAP13.
  • Localizes to the cytoplasm, melanosomes, and vacuole membrane.
  • Subject to multiple post-translational modifications including acetylation, nitration, phosphorylation, and ubiquitination (isopeptide bond formation).
