Biological Background: DNA (cytosine-5)-methyltransferase 1 Function and Localization

DNMT1 is a critical DNA methyltransferase responsible for maintaining CpG methylation patterns during DNA replication, ensuring epigenetic inheritance. It preferentially methylates hemimethylated DNA and associates with replication foci in S phase, but also acts independently of replication during G2 and M phases to preserve global methylation landscapes.
